Public Participation Projects

Transportation

Chouteau Parkway, City of Kansas City, Missouri: Provided public participation services for the design of approximately 1.5 miles of Chouteau Parkway from Interstate 35 to Missouri Highway 210. Chouteau Parkway is on Kansas City’s Major Street Plan with a classification of “Parkway/Trafficway”. Facilitated workshop meetings, pre-location meetings, and a location hearing. Conducted one-on-one property owner meetings. This project was designed in compliance with the standards of the Missouri Department of Transportation and the City of Kansas City, Missouri.

Lydia Bridge, City of Kansas City, Missouri: The height of the old bridge required Kansas City, Missouri to close Lydia Bridge when floodwaters rose and flowed over the bridge, making travel across the bridge unsafe. Jackson County spent $4.5M to design and construct a new bridge. Organized and publicized the groundbreaking ceremony and ribbon cutting.

Colburn Road Project, Jackson County, Missouri: Prepared newsletters to be distributed to stakeholders, prepared the press release to print and broadcast media, made contact with media and resolved communications issues regarding the project. Arranged and facilitated public meetings to discuss preliminary and final project design.

SMART MOVES Regional Transit Project, Mid-America Regional Council (MARC): SMART MOVES is a long-range regional transit plan developed by the Kansas City Area Transit Authority and MARC. Worked with regional transit operators and MARC staff to design the community presentation and input process. Prepared materials to advertise the events. Facilitated seven community forums across the region. Prepared the discussion guide. Prepared a questionnaire and comment card. Prepared the PowerPoint presentation and exhibits. Facilitated post-presentation discussion by area planning professionals. Assisted with final report preparation.

Colorado Avenue Bridge, Kansas City, Missouri: Prepared and executed a public involvement plan for the Colorado Avenue Bridge design project. Developed information for the City’s website, distributed press releases, identified stakeholders, and conducted public meeting.

Kansas Department of Transportation 5-County Regional Transportation Study: Providing public participation services for phase one of the two-phase study that involved residents, community leaders and transportation representatives to assess changing transportation needs in five northeast Kansas counties (Douglas, Johnson, Leavenworth, Miami and Wyandotte). The public participation activities included two Transportation Summits, Stakeholder Advisory Panel meetings, Working Group (or subcommittee) meetings, stakeholder interviews, non-traditional meetings, 10 general public meetings, public opinion survey, and the distribution of flyers and newsletters throughout phase one.
